More than 100,000 drugs are authorised in Germany. With the wastewater from industrial and municipal sewage treatment plants, its residues can also enter rivers and lakes.

Up to 13 different pharmaceuticals, metabolites and transformation products have now been detected in fish. Five of the substances were also measurable in the bream fillets of the environmental specimen bank, including an analgesic, a blood-thinner and a heart medication.
