Oberhalb Moselmündung
Upstream the Moselle confluence
At the exit of the Rhine from the Rhenish Slate Mountains and upstream of the Moselle confluence at the German Corner at Koblenz
The sub-area is situated at the Middle Rhine which flows through a steep and narrow valley of less than 150 meter width between Bingen and Koblenz. The surrounding uplands belong to the Rheinisches Schiefergebirge (Rhenish Slate Mountains) with its Palaeozoic stratification. In the north of Koblenz the valley widens in the Neuwied Basin. The Middle Rhine and the Lower Rhine have not been subject to stream widening and straightening.
