Bimmen (km 865)
At the German-Dutch border
The sampling site Bimmen extends from the main stream in the German-Dutch Borderland to the mouth of the so-called Griethauser Altrhein (an oxbow). Both, the main stream and the oxbow are straightened and large sections of their banks are reinforced by rock fills. Only a minor part is still in its natural state. The surroundings are characterized by pastures and grazing land for cattle and sheep.
At Bimmen samples are taken from zebra mussels, bream, and suspended particulate matter.
