Belauer See
Lake Belau
One of the 6 lakes in the Bornhöved Lake District
Belauer See (Lake Belau) is a calcareous, stratified lake which is fed and drained by the small river Alte Schwentine. The sedimentation zones at the lakeside are covered with reed.
The whole lake is used as sampling site. For the exposure of zebra mussels a number of sampling places was defined based on the abundance of wild mussels. At the moment, zebra mussels are sampled near the rubbles at the outlet of Lake Belau and in the section of the Alte Schwentine down to the former mill at Perdöl.
