Short-chain phthalate

Diethyl phthalate (DEP) belongs to the short-chain phthalates. Among others, it is used as plasticizers in cellulose based polymers. However, DEP is also used in cosmetics, textiles, pesticides, lubricants, and glues.

The Environmental Specimen Bank does not analyses the parent substance DEP in human samples, but its main metabolite MEP.
